Start with the device you are using
For a physical controller, follow Apple’s connection checks and your controller maker’s instructions. A controller appearing in macOS does not prove the game is using it. Continue with the addon and in-game checks below.
For Thumble, check the phone’s connection first. If it is disconnected, use the phone and Mac pairing guide. Do not troubleshoot Bluetooth pairing for Thumble’s Wi-Fi phone connection.
Public Thumble phone downloads are coming soon. These checks are for an existing supported installation; downloading the Mac receiver alone does not provide phone input.
Check the WoW client and addon installation
- Identify the exact WoW installation you launched.
- Select that same installation in CurseForge and check that ConsolePort has a release for its game flavor and version.
- At character selection, enable ConsolePort for that installation. Restart WoW after its first install.
- Follow ConsolePort’s setup path with your controller connected.
Do not copy an addon from another client as a workaround. Thumble’s documented companion addon 0.1.2 is for Classic Era 1.15.9; that does not establish compatibility with every Retail, Forever or Classic client.
If the phone is paired but input does nothing
Confirm that Thumble’s controller is resumed and you have connected demo time remaining or verified Pro access. The demo is 30 minutes total across sessions; expiry stops live input. Keep WoW focused and the receiver running.
If a button works but performs the wrong action, that is a different problem from discovery. Check the active character’s ConsolePort binding and modifier layer. Release both shoulders and triggers, then try the base action again. A phone label alone does not assign a spell.
Offline practice checks the phone layout only. It cannot confirm that the Mac or WoW received input.
If it stopped after a receiver restart
Pause the controller before recovery and pair the phone to the restarted receiver with a fresh QR code. If the matching Thumble addon is installed, keep ConsolePort enabled, release all controls and leave combat. Type /thumble discovery in WoW chat to inspect recovery status.
The addon’s recovery waits for neutral controls and defers during combat. Do not keep holding a stick or button while checking discovery. See the addon installation guide if the command is unavailable.
If the addon is unavailable or WoW still does not see the gamepad, the documented manual route is to pause input and refresh detection in WoW:
/console GamePadEnable 0
/console GamePadEnable 1
These commands change WoW’s gamepad setting. Use them outside combat with controls released, then resume and test in a quiet place. They are not a remedy for a phone that cannot connect to the Mac.
Verify one step at a time
Try movement and release the stick. If your character stops as expected, check camera movement, a familiar action, a modifier combination and menu navigation. Use the full five-check list after changing the receiver, controller or game client.
If the problem remains, contact support with your WoW client and version, ConsolePort and Thumble addon versions, phone and macOS versions, receiver version, and the step that failed. Describe whether the phone stayed connected. Do not include pairing QR codes, tokens or passwords.
