ConsolePort button doing the wrong action? Check bindings and modifiers

If a ConsolePort button performs an unexpected action, check the current character’s in-game binding and modifier assignment first. Release shoulders and triggers, test the base button, then test each modifier separately. If the action is correct but the phone picture is wrong, investigate label sync rather than rebinding the action.

Identify what is actually wrong

A connected controller can still have a binding problem, and a wrong picture can appear even when the binding works. Start with the result you see in WoW.

Match the symptom to the next check
Symptom Check next
A button does nothing Connection, active controller, game focus and gamepad detection before changing actions.
A button triggers another action The current character’s ConsolePort binding and active modifier combination.
Base action works, modified action does not The modifier assignment and that exact combination in ConsolePort.
Action works, phone label is wrong The saved character snapshot and supported label-sync workflow.

If no buttons reach WoW, use controller detection on Mac. For a disconnected phone, use phone pairing checks. This article focuses on input that reaches the game but does something unexpected.

Check the character, client and controller

Confirm the WoW installation you launched and the character you are configuring. Then check that the controller you are holding matches the one selected in your setup. Do not assume a setting for another character or another WoW installation applies here.

ConsolePort owns the action bindings. A name, spell picture or label on Thumble’s phone screen does not itself assign an action in WoW. Read the ConsolePort setup guide if you have not configured the current character.

Test the base button before a combination

  1. In a quiet place, release the sticks, shoulders and triggers.
  2. Press only the button you want to check. Note the action that WoW performs.
  3. Inspect that button’s base assignment in ConsolePort.
  4. If it differs from your intention, change that assignment in the game, then test the same button again.

Change one binding at a time. Do not reset all ConsolePort settings simply because one action is wrong. Keep a keyboard and mouse nearby so you can open the settings and stop the test.

Test one modifier at a time

Check which physical button or trigger ConsolePort uses as each modifier. Its assignment matters more than the picture or position of the control on the phone.

  1. Hold only the first assigned modifier and press the action button.
  2. Release both controls and test the base action again.
  3. Repeat for the other assigned modifier.
  4. If you use a combination of modifiers, test it only after each individual modifier behaves as intended.

If the base action is correct but one combination is wrong, inspect that combination in ConsolePort. Do not change a working base action to compensate for an incorrect modified binding.

If an action seems to remain modified after you let go, release every control and pause the phone controller before investigating further. Reconnect if needed, then repeat the five in-game checks. A saved label is not evidence that a modifier is still held.

When only the phone label is wrong

With a supported Thumble addon and receiver setup, label updates use a saved snapshot. After changing bindings, type /reload in WoW so the addon can save its updated information. Follow the matching addon installation and release instructions.

If your receiver provides Automatically sync ConsolePort, check that it is enabled for the correct WoW installation. If your phone build has a sync-status screen, compare the exported character and timestamp with the session you intended to use. A status refresh reads the receiver’s saved information; it does not make WoW save a new snapshot.

The documented addon 0.1.2 release is for Classic Era 1.15.9. Menu names and available sync features vary with installed builds. Public phone downloads are coming soon. Labels and cooldowns should not be treated as a live stream from the game.

Retest and describe any remaining mismatch

Check movement, camera, an action, a modifier combination and menus after changing your bindings or controller. If the problem persists, send support the WoW client, ConsolePort/addon versions, active character and controller, and a precise example: which button you pressed, which modifier you held, what you expected and what happened.

Do not include pairing codes or tokens. If the action is correct but its picture is wrong, say that explicitly; it points to a different investigation.

Phone labels not updating?

For a correct in-game action with a stale phone label, follow the spell-label and character-sync checks.
