Start with what is missing
| What you see | Check next |
|---|---|
| Addon absent from WoW’s list | Installation selection and extracted folder structure. |
| Addon listed but disabled | Enable it for the intended character and read any dependency or version message. |
| CurseForge flavor warning | Find a release for the client you actually play. |
| Addon enabled, controller does nothing | Continue with gamepad detection and input checks. |
A missing ConsolePort interface and a disconnected controller can look similar during setup. Checking the AddOns list first helps you choose the right next step.
1. Match the game installation in CurseForge
Identify the WoW edition and installation you launch. In CurseForge, select that same instance before installing or updating. Retail, Classic and Classic Era are separate choices; an addon installed for one is not automatically installed for the others.
If the installation is missing from CurseForge, use its game scan or manual game selection. Choose the game directory rather than the application file. CurseForge gives / as a Mac example; your install location or client folder may differ.
Check the selected instance again if you have moved WoW to another drive or kept an older installation. See the official instance-management instructions.
2. Inspect a manual installation in Finder
Quit WoW before changing addon files. Open the installation you identified, then that client’s Interface/ folder. Extract the download; putting a ZIP archive there is not the same as installing its contents.
The addon folder belongs directly inside AddOns, with its TOC manifest inside it. Avoid an extra folder created while extracting the archive. For the documented Thumble addon, the internal name remains ThumbleBridge:
- Expected:
AddOns/ThumbleBridge/ ThumbleBridge.toc - Extra nesting:
AddOns/Thumble-0.1.2/ ThumbleBridge/ ThumbleBridge.toc
Keep the addon’s supplied folder names. Some packages contain several addon folders, so follow the author’s installation instructions. The Townlong Yak addon-author guide explains extraction and TOC placement.
3. Match the release to the client
Read the file’s supported game flavor and version. If CurseForge reports that a file belongs to another flavor, return to the correct instance and install a matching release. Its official troubleshooting guide explains this warning and notes that a matching file may not exist.
For Thumble, the documented companion-addon 0.1.2 release targets Classic Era 1.15.9. Use the client compatibility checklist and Thumble installation guide to check its scope. ConsolePort’s own release coverage is separate.
An “out of date” message and an absent addon are different symptoms. Read the message and check for an author-supported update. Editing a TOC version number does not demonstrate that the code works with a newer game patch.
4. Restart and check the intended character
Restart WoW after correcting a new installation. At character selection, open AddOns, look for the addon and enable it for the character you intend to use. Read any dependency message before continuing.
If ConsolePort is now present, return to ConsolePort setup on Mac. If it is enabled but inputs still fail, use the controller-detection guide. If game actions work and only the phone labels are stale, use the label-sync checks.
If it still does not appear
Record the exact game flavor and patch, addon name and file version, selected CurseForge instance, and whether the addon is absent or listed with a warning. For a manual install, include the final folder structure with personal account and home-directory names removed.
Use the addon author’s support channel for that addon, or Thumble support for the companion addon. Resolve this specific installation before attempting a broad settings reset; back up your setup before reinstalling or removing files.
The Thumble companion addon does not install the receiver or phone app. Public phone downloads are coming soon; the setup reference lists the separate components.

Checked October 26, 2026: CurseForge WoW troubleshooting, CurseForge instance management, Townlong Yak installation guide and the Thumble release reference.
These are installation checks, not a claim that every missing-addon problem has the same cause or that every WoW client supports the documented Thumble release.
